Refrigeration

Compare commercial-style reach-in and undercounter refrigerators for an appropriate food-storage installation. The current range includes one-, two- and three-door formats. These are powered refrigerators—not a collection of freezers or automatically solar-compatible off-grid appliances.

Buying and planning guide

Choose the cabinet format

Reach-in cabinets offer upright storage, while undercounter models serve a different workspace layout. Compare internal organization and usable shelf space alongside the advertised capacity. Measure door openings, aisle clearance and the route into the building before ordering.

Check installation requirements

Review the exact model's electrical supply, ventilation clearances, permitted ambient conditions and intended setting. Confirm whether any drainage or other site provisions are needed. A cabinet's exterior width alone does not establish the space required for operation and servicing.

Plan temperature management

Use the appliance instructions and appropriate food-safety practices for loading, temperature checks and cleaning. More storage volume is not a substitute for adequate cooling performance in the intended environment. Avoid overloading or blocking required airflow.

Include outage planning

If considering backup power, assess running demand, compressor starting load and the duration you need to maintain refrigeration. Do not assume an arbitrary solar panel or battery can run the refrigerator indefinitely. Pair the workflow with suitable food-preparation equipment and packaging tools; packaging does not replace cold storage.
