Read the exact model's reduction claims and operating instructions before relying on it. A microfilter should not be treated as a desalination system, and filtration does not automatically establish virus or chemical removal. Source selection remains an important part of the plan.

Plan operation and maintenance

Compare the people using the equipment, collection time, carrying space and cleaning needs. Allow for replacement elements and any required protective handling. Follow model-specific instructions for cleaning, storage and cold-weather care rather than assuming every filter can be maintained in the same way.

Protect the collected water
