What is the portable EMP Shield EXT-120?
EMP Shield markets its plug-in model for RVs, campers, apartments, travel and computers. It uses electrical surge-suppression technology to shunt excess voltage on connected wiring. It does not form a Faraday enclosure around nearby equipment or supply backup electricity. See the manufacturer's portable model information.

Portability is useful when you move between locations or cannot arrange a permanent panel installation. The appropriate connection still matters at each destination.
Check the plug-in instructions before choosing an outlet
The manufacturer's plug-in/extension installation sheet specifies a non-GFI outlet and describes protection for the connected 110-volt electrical phase. That wording should not be interpreted as confirmation that one outlet connection covers every electrical system in an RV or rental building.
Do not remove or bypass required GFCI protection to accommodate the device. If your available outlets are GFCI-protected, have the manufacturer and a qualified electrician or RV technician confirm a suitable arrangement. An ordinary-looking receptacle can have upstream protection, so appearance alone does not establish compatibility.
Use the product label and current instructions to confirm electrical ratings, placement and connection requirements. Ask about your particular power source if you plan to use an inverter, generator or adapters.

EMP protection for RVs: consider more than the wall outlets
An RV can have several electrical systems: AC equipment supplied through shore power or an inverter, a house battery system, and—in a motorhome—a separate engine-starting system. Solar charging equipment and generator connections add further considerations.
Do not assume that plugging an EXT-120 into an interior outlet establishes protection for the engine electronics, all battery circuits or every operating mode. Make a list of the systems you want to protect and review it with an RV technician and the manufacturer.
For a compatible 12-volt vehicle application, compare the separate EMP Shield DC-12V-W vehicle model. Its presence in the range does not mean it suits every motorhome battery configuration. The manufacturer's installation resources provide different guides for vehicle, generator, battery and solar applications.
Does it replace an RV electrical management system?
Do not assume the products provide identical functions. Compare the exact devices' documentation for fault detection, voltage monitoring, disconnect behavior and surge protection. Ask about compatibility with the protective equipment already installed in your RV before combining devices.
Portable protection for renters
Renters may prefer equipment they can take with them when they move. A suitable plug-in device can be part of that plan, alongside spare electronics and outage supplies.
Identify what matters most: a computer used for work, charging equipment, communications devices or other essentials. Then establish which electrical connections serve that equipment. Protect camping electronics when they are stored
A plug-in electrical protector and a Faraday bag perform different jobs. For spare radios, lights, tablets and backup drives, consider enclosure shielding and a maintenance routine. What does the EMP Shield test documentation establish?
The manufacturer publishes a Keystone Compliance laboratory report documenting compliance for the pulsed-current-injection and RS105 tests reported. Results apply to the equipment and configurations identified in that report.
The RS105 sheet identifies Unit 1 only, listed as the SP Series in the equipment table. It should not be described as a separate test of an EXT-120 installed in a complete RV. For model-specific questions, request confirmation from EMP Shield about how the report applies to your selected unit.
