Whole-Home Backup Power When You Cannot Depend on a Single Fuel

Extended outages create two problems at once: you need enough power for major household loads, and you need a fuel supply that will still be available days into the outage. The DuroMax XP28000iHT addresses both. It produces up to 28,000 peak watts and can run on gasoline, propane, or natural gas, giving you three ways to keep the home powered as conditions change.

Gasoline gives you the highest output at 28,000 peak / 22,000 running watts. Propane provides 25,000 peak / 20,000 running watts and is practical for long-term fuel storage. Natural gas provides 20,000 peak / 16,000 running watts and, where a properly sized utility supply remains available, can eliminate repeated refueling altogether. Combined with low-THD inverter output, two 50-amp outlets, remote start, and 2-wire start capability, the XP28000iHT is designed for serious whole-home and hybrid-energy backup systems.

Why the XP28000iHT Stands Out

  • 28,000 peak / 22,000 running watts on gasoline
  • 25,000 peak / 20,000 running watts on propane
  • 20,000 peak / 16,000 running watts on natural gas
  • Tri Fuel operation reduces dependence on any one emergency fuel source
  • <3% total harmonic distortion for clean sine-wave power suitable for modern electronics
  • Two 14-50R 50A outlets for high-capacity home-backup connections
  • Remote and push-button electric start
  • 2-wire start for compatible solar inverter and battery-bank automation
  • 48V/52V DC output for charging compatible battery banks
  • CO Alert shutdown, GFCI outlets, and automatic low-oil shutdown
  • 100% copper windings and AGM starting-battery technology

Power Output and Runtime

Fuel Peak Watts Running Watts Runtime
Gasoline 28,000 22,000 16 hr at 25% / 9 hr at 50%
Propane 25,000 20,000 12 / 18 / 30 hr at 25% on 40 / 60 / 100 lb tanks; 6.67 / 10 / 16.66 hr at 50%
Natural Gas 20,000 16,000 Dependent on continuous gas supply

Natural-gas requirements: 6.0–9.0 inches of water column fuel pressure and approximately 327,000 BTU/hr at full load. Have a qualified gas professional verify that your meter, regulator, piping, and service can provide the required flow before relying on natural gas at full output.

Before You Buy

This generator is intended for outdoor use only. Never operate a portable generator inside a home, garage, basement, enclosed porch, or other enclosed or partially enclosed area. For whole-home backup, have a qualified electrician size and install the appropriate transfer switch, inlet, or interlock. Natural-gas operation should also be reviewed by a qualified gas professional to confirm adequate pressure and BTU capacity. The XP28000iHT is EPA certified but is not CARB certified, so confirm that it can legally be sold and operated in your state before purchasing.

Best fit: whole-home emergency backup, long-duration outages, rural properties, high-load workshops, and hybrid solar/battery systems where the ability to switch among gasoline, propane, and natural gas provides valuable redundancy.
