DuroMax XP15000HX: HX+, HXT, and HXT+ Differences
A search for DuroMax XP15000HX can lead to several similar-looking model names. Before comparing prices or specifications, establish whether you mean an older HX, the current XP15000HX+, the XP15000HXT, or the XP15000HXT+. The suffix is part of the model identity, not optional punctuation.
Our current dual-fuel listing is the XP15000HX+. This guide explains the model-family differences; it does not apply the newer unit's specifications automatically to an older HX.
HX+ and HXT+ answer different fuel questions
The manufacturer's XP15000HX+ information identifies a dual-fuel EFI unit for gasoline and propane. The XP15000HXT+ information identifies an EFI model that also supports natural gas.
| Exact model | Fuel choices | Model distinction |
|---|---|---|
| XP15000HX+ | Gasoline and propane | Dual fuel, EFI |
| XP15000HXT | Gasoline, propane, natural gas | Separate carbureted model |
| XP15000HXT+ | Gasoline, propane, natural gas | Tri fuel, EFI |
The manufacturer's non-plus HXT specifications identify a different engine and fuel-delivery configuration. Do not merge manuals, maintenance information, dimensions, or accessories across these names.
Compare running watts on the fuel you will use
For the HX+, DuroMax lists 15,000 peak and 12,000 running watts on gasoline, versus 14,250 peak and 11,400 running watts on propane. The HXT+ lists those same gasoline and propane ratings, plus 13,000 peak and 10,500 running watts on natural gas.
The non-plus HXT's published natural-gas ratings differ: 12,825 peak and 10,260 running watts. That is a practical example of why copying a specification from the nearest-looking model is a bad comparison method.
Use the running figure for the intended fuel as the starting point for a load review. Peak output does not mean you can continuously operate that much equipment. Record motor-starting requirements separately and have your electrician evaluate the loads that may start together.
Choose a fuel plan, not merely another option
If your plan is gasoline with propane backup, ask what advantage a tri-fuel configuration would provide at your site. If natural gas is central to the plan, have a qualified gas professional review the supply and connection requirements before choosing a model.
A natural-gas-capable generator is not ready to connect to an arbitrary household outlet. Keep utility continuity, installation scope, and your fallback fuel plan on the comparison sheet. Do not infer that dual fuel means natural gas is supported.
Treat the home connection as a separate project
Have a licensed electrician specify listed transfer equipment, the inlet, conductors, protection, and grounding/bonding arrangement appropriate to the installation and exact generator. Never backfeed household wiring through an appliance outlet.
The generator's headline rating does not define the capacity of each receptacle or make multiple outlets additive. Ask how the proposed connection and load-management plan use the available output. Include the electrical installation in the total purchase decision.
Review placement before comparing convenience features
The CPSC's carbon-monoxide guidance calls for portable generators outdoors, at least 20 feet from the home, with exhaust directed away from buildings and openings. Never operate one in a basement, garage, shed, or enclosed porch. Use working CO alarms indoors.
A CO shutoff feature is an additional safeguard, not permission to shorten that separation or run indoors. Resolve weather protection using equipment approved for operation and keep cooling and exhaust unobstructed.
Use an exact-model comparison sheet
- Full model name, including the plus sign, on the quote and supplied manual.
- Running and starting output for the planned fuel.
- Fuel supply requirements and installation scope.
- Control panel, receptacles, included accessories, and handling requirements.
- Maintenance instructions, warranty terms, and local service arrangements.
Runtime claims deserve an exact model, fuel quantity, and load condition. Avoid copying a non-plus model's runtime into an EFI comparison; ask for the applicable manual and specification sheet if listings disagree.
Compare our XP15000HXT+ listing and DuroMax generators collection after defining your fuel and home-connection plans. Buy the documented model that suits those plans, not whichever search result drops the fewest letters.
